MTNL and Aksh Collaborates for Last Mile Connectivity

MTNL, Mahanagar Telecom Ltd, India, and Aksh India Limited will jointly start rolling fiber optic cables to the last mile, thus joining India to the list of nations where FTTH rollout is substantial in Asian countries like Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, China, etc.

This joint promotion of FTTH will be the first of its kind and will replace the traditional copper wires with optical fibers from home in the existing buildings. New buildings will have more flexibility in design as they offer connectivity choices to the operators.

Aksh India will supply Indoor/drop fiber optic cables and connectivity accessories through which MTNL services will reach to its subscribers. MTNL is in operation in two major Indian cities like New Delhi and Bombay. New Delhi, being the capital has many potential customers for FTTH. Bombay is the Business capital of India and will be the place going to benefit out of FTTH. Fiber to the home and subscriber ends will boost up the business prospects of the Bombay based offices.

With Fiber to the home services, MTNL plans to deliver high-quality high definition content and interactive capabilities to its customers. Realizing the capacity limitation of conventional copper wires as a communication medium, MTNL has decided to join hands with AKSHOPTIFIBRE, a North India based Optical fiber and cable manufacturer who has diversified into Network services recently.

Aksh and MTNL officials were happy to announce the high definition TV and Multiplay services to the Indian customers. They said the Fiber to the home services has become an Indian reality now.

Indian market is the potential for telecommunication infrastructure developments. The Indian government supports liberalization and healthy private-sector competition in the market. Unlike many other neighboring Middle East countries, the Indian government has privatized the telecom sector thus forcing the once state-owned Department of telecommunication (now BSNL) to face the competition from the private sector. This will ensure that nobody monopolizes the telecom market in India and also a healthy co-operation of private and public sector companies to offer quality services to the customers.

The MTNL-Aksh joint promotion and tie-up is one of such Private-Public sector co-operation to provide the latest fiber optic technology services to Indian customers.
