Peru Plans Expansion of Fiber Optic Networks

By investing PEN 64 mln in Puno, Peru is making plans to expand fiber optic networks in the country. Peru’s transport and communications ministry (MTC) revealed their plans to invest PEN 64 million, which comes around 19 million US dollars.

The expansion of the network will be done in 13 provinces in the southeastern Puno region. The national fiber optic backbone network will be extended to further 453,000 houses in the region’s provincial capitals. The network expansion work will be carried out by Azteca Comunicaciones.

The Ministry hopes the expansion work will be completed by March 2016. Peru Government had previously announced an investment of around 330 million US dollars to connect 180 provinces to the national fiber optic network by the next year 2016.
