ZTE has announced the start of the third and final phase of construction of the fiber optic network that it builds for Primevest Capital Partners in Southern Germany. The fiber optic network has reached to the core city of Bretten.
Once the network is completed, Primevest will lease it to the operator BBV. BBV is a German broadband company providing services over fiber optic networks in under-served rural areas of the country, competing with established providers such as Deutsche Telekom.
BBV is an abbreviation for Breitbandversorgung Deutschland, which means “Broadband Service Germany”. BBV has the fund for some part of the project, which is supported by an investment management company, Bouwfonds, and ZTE.
The partners had completed two phases of the fiber optic network project and are now entered the third and final phase. Fiber optic cables will give better connectivity in the city of Bretten. Bouwfonds supports the project by sharing a €500-€600 million fund that is being used for the fiber cable network, towers and data centers.
The project partners told they are committed to building future-proof fiber optic networks in rural areas, and the current project is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
ZTE has a wider role in this project. Apart from being a technology supplier, ZTE is also a general contractor. ZTE takes over the financing of the network deployment, takes care of the turnkey construction and sells it on completion to Primevest Capital Partners, which then leases the finished network to the operator BBV.
In the summer of 2017, the technology supplier ZTE, the asset manager Primevest Capital Partners and the nationwide network operator BBV Germany, entered into a partnership to close the digital supply gap in rural areas by building a powerful gigabit network in the city of Bretten in the district of Karlsruhe.
Five neighborhoods were connected via fiber in the first two phases of the project after only one year of construction. In addition to private households, enterprises, schools, and public institutions also get fast access to the information highway since late summer 2018.
By means of the third and final stage of expansion, the network now reaches the core city of Bretten. By the end of 2019, more than 700 kilometers of fiber optic cable will be laid and the fiber-optic connection will be accessible to more than 12,000 households.
As a regional network operator and marketer, BBV is particularly interested in the close cooperation with the city, open communication with all involved and the discrete expansion. BBV provides a symmetrical service ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps.
