Fiber Manufacturing Engineer in Corning Wilmington Facility

Purpose of the Position:

Manage daily Fiber Processing operations to achieve safety, quality, and productivity performance. Duties include personnel scheduling, wareflow management, training, and performance issue resolution. Projects will include Lean activities, performance / data system improvement, capacity increase, and labor efficiency improvements.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Champion safety; Directly responsible for maintaining a safe work environment; Enforce all safety regulations
Meet all department production objectives – safety, quality, cost, and capacity
Define, scope, and implement projects to improve available performance data systems / diagnostics
Lean manufacturing- identify opportunities to improve wareflow, operational efficiency and flexibility, and communication to maximize output and eliminate bottlenecks
Ensure the department meets future product demand needs through capacity improvements
Ensure cooperation with Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence Team in the implementation and evaluation of development experiments, as well as troubleshooting efforts
Establish effective transfer of new process technologies to manufacturing
Define, manage, and support continuous improvement of existing manufacturing processes / equipment
Ensure department spend is within budget; Identify cost saving opportunities
Coordinate overall department staffing and overtime
Ensure department wareflow, equipment schedules, and development support meets weekly / monthly planning needs
Personnel performance – manage training for new employees and skills training for existing employees; Coordinate performance reviews; Ensure performance metrics are used with feedback
Identify and lead resolution of wareflow and personnel performance trends
Hold employees accountable for adherence to established procedures and performance metrics; Ensure awareness and compliance to changes
Maintain employee skill level consistent with the prescribed standard operating procedures
Coach teams and provide guidance to support team development
Ensure the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property
Maintain the systems and actions necessary to ensure compliance with department certification programs, quality System Audit Program, and ISO 9000 registration Projects involved with: Safety improvement, Lean manufacturing, new technology initiatives, cost reduction, capacity increase, performance / data system improvement, and labor efficiency improvements.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Science in Technical Field; Or equivalent technical experience in a manufacturing environment
2-4 years manufacturing experience
2-4 years leadership experience
Strong lean experience / background or industrial engineering background

Required Skills:

Demonstrated safety leadership
Proven ability to effectively lead and motivate production teams
Strong analytical skills; Ability to collect and analyze data, and set direction
Demonstrated ability to identify / improve manufacturing efficiency / cost, and create lean manufacturing processes
Ability to identify and close gaps in process data systems
Sound decision making skills; Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary
Communicate frequently and effectively, both vertically and horizontally within the organization – strong oral, written and presentation skills
Ability to effectively define and execute training for operations and technical employees
Good time management and organization skills

Desired Skills:

Experience working with production teams in a union environment
Experience with data systems such as PowerBI, excel, access, PI
Conflict resolution
