Scope of Position
Perform a variety of technical duties and activities supporting Fibermaking Engineering, including experimental procedures, collection of data from manufacturing process, data analysis, and graphical analysis. Support and lead projects related to cost reduction, performance improvement, and new technology deployment. May be involved with external customer and vendors. Position is within the Corning Optical Fiber and Cable (OFC) Division Engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities
Understand equipment used in key process(es) and interpret data from process(es) to solve problems
Troubleshoot process and equipment issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts
Provide technical expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues
Support and/or lead project teams focused on product innovation, cost reduction, etc
Work with engineers to develop and implement testing and integration of equipment
May be asked to participate in developing a new process or machine to improve the current process
Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects
Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment
Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions
Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines
Develop and update engineering and operations documentation
Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes
Travel Requirements
Up to 25% domestic and international
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time
8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week.
Education and Experience
2-year technical degree or equivalent experience
2-5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment
Skills
Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel
Experience with Microsoft Access and statistical packages such as Minitab a plus
Experience with PI process books a plus
Experience with experimental design
Ability to use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively
Ability to work within a team and provide training to others
Works well with different functional areas (development, engineering, manufacturing, trades, etc)
