Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Key Responsibilities:

Interfaces with Commercial groups, New Product Development teams, Product Engineering, Engineering (plant and division), Manufacturing and Quality organizations to understand customer needs and translate them into meaningful manufacturing specifications and measurement protocols.
Collaborates with development, engineering and manufacturing functions on complex projects to ensure quality standards are in place.
Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes.
Collects production data and applies standard scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and improve production processes.
Recommends changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods, or other aspects of the process to improve quality, efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials.
Supports early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues and ensures implementation of actions to ensure improvement.
Active participant on qualification councils for cables. Ensures new products/processes are meeting qualification requirements.
Ensure that PQA/QA processes are implemented with new products/processes. Verify that plants are adhering to processes.
Support Worldwide quality deployments and customer resolutions.
Support OFC Quality Systems by creating, maintaining, and executing the global strategy
Facilitate efforts in understanding processes capability and product quality architecture
Facilitate root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements
Work with engineering on Proactive Sustainable Solutions vs. reactive responses
Hold/ evaluate/ release ware produced under non-standard conditions.
Perform experimental designs and data analysis.
Coordinates and facilitates benchmarking and communication of best practices across the division
Instills a Quality oriented culture in which everyone feels ownership for Quality and acts accordingly

Required Skills

Experience in manufacturing, quality or process engineering.
Experience working on teams in new product/process introduction/receiving, process improvements, and root cause analysis
Good data collection and analysis skills; basic understanding of statistics and control charts.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
Strong facilitator, able to reach consensus within multi-functional groups.
Independent worker can complete a task with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in technical projects teams in leadership and subordinate roles
Good written and verbal communications skills
Sounds decision making skills
Experience with MS-office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
Effective in Project Management
Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause (e.g., KT)
Familiarity with Quality Systems, audits, TL and ISO Certifications or other types of Quality certifications
Ability to drive projects to closure

Desired Skills

Knowledge of Optical Cable manufacturing process and product attributes, especially Fire Retardant and Drop manufacturing.
Experience in role with direct customer interaction (applications engineer, customer service, technical rep, etc.)
Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab
Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.
Understanding Quality Arch (input and output linkages / interactions)
Sound judgment – able to be the conscience of the business Soft Skills
